Dr. Shahida Shaheen, also known as Dr. Shahida Sardar, is a renowned Pakistani poet, acclaimed author, writer, and dedicated social activist, whose life reflects an inspiring blend of professional dedication, literary depth, and humanitarian service. Hailing from District Karak (Khattak Pathan), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, she is a professional radiologist who, for nearly three decades, has served the community through medicine while remaining deeply engaged in literature and community welfare. Her journey has been defined by consistency and a shared sense of responsibility toward society, where healing, writing, and social service move in tandem.

While continuing her medical career, Dr. Shahida Shaheen earned recognition in Pakistan’s literary community. She writes in both Urdu and Pashto, contributing to a wide range of literary forms, including poetry, fiction, short stories, travelogues, Na‘at, essays, research articles, literary criticism, and newspaper columns. Her writings explore social issues, cultural traditions, spiritual values, and a deep love for the country, allowing her words to resonate with readers from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Shaheen has actively participated in national and international mushairas, literary conferences, seminars, and cultural programs. She has delivered performances in thousands of gatherings, representing Pakistan’s literary and cultural identity. One of her most significant contributions is her travelogue Deewar ke Us Paar, which was written after her visit to India as a delegate of the Government of Pakistan at the SAARC Sufi Conference. The travelogue is admired for its narrative depth and for offering new perspectives, including insights into the Radha Soami belief.

Her book Mehkati Dharti Sulaghti Saansen, dedicated entirely to Pakistan, made her the first female poet from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to write a complete book devoted to the homeland. Prof. Dr. Nazir Tabassum (Late) honored her with the title “Poet of the Voice of the Soil,” recognizing her unique contribution to patriotic literature. Her poetry reflects a strong sense of patriotism (حب الوطنی), expressing deep emotional and cultural attachment to Pakistan.

Her literary style merges meaningful expression with intellectual depth, seen in Deewar ke Us Paar where she provides cultural and religious insights with clarity, and in Mehkati Dharti Sulaghti Saansen, where her message of courage and hope, inspired by Iqbal’s vision, resonates with the youth. In Karb-e-Zeest, her storytelling offers vivid realism and emotional depth, making her characters come alive with expressive detail.

 

Dr. Shahida Shaheen’s dedication to social work has been a defining part of her life. In 2010, following the devastating earthquake, she founded the Motivation and Awareness Program for Community (MAPC), where she regularly organizes free medical camps and aids disaster-affected communities. Through MAPC, she has helped thousands of people in need. Her welfare work includes helping poor girls with their weddings, providing support for those who cannot afford medical treatment, and assisting individuals in starting small businesses, particularly for those working on the streets trying to sell something. She has supported these efforts by helping establish small shops for them.

Additionally, she founded SH Sewing Center and SH Beauty Parlor, where deaf & dumb and underprivileged girls receive vocational training, enabling them to become financially independent. She runs training programs for street children, provides educational initiatives, and contributes to the construction of mosques, installation of water pumps, and the renovation of government schools.

Fluent in Urdu, Pashto, Hindko, Persian, and Punjabi, Dr. Shahida Shaheen connects with diverse audiences. Her literary voice is known for its depth, spirituality, and devotion, expressed through her poetry and prose.
